Nice, gently rolling championship golf course with 3 large lakes providing water on 7 holes and the ultimate in high quality greens–Champion ultradwarf bermuda, which is replacing bentgrass in the South on many courses that desire bentgrass quality putting surfaces and bermuda heat tolerance. The ball rolls true and fast on Champion, just like excellent bentgrass greens. Tee boxes are zoysia and bermuda and we have 4 sets of tees on each hole. Fairways are primarily bermuda but zoysia was installed in places on six fairways in 2014.
George Davies, born in the British Isles (Liverpool, England) not so many miles from the cradle of the game of golf itself, was the architect who laid out the original design of Paxton Park and supervised its building way back in 1939 and 1940. Mr. Davies built at least 40 courses during his lifetime. The course has had several significant renovations since that time but much of the original design is still intact.
