Nice, gently rolling golf course with the ultimate in high quality greens--Champion ultradwarf bermuda. While Champion has only been on the market since 1996, it is rapidly becoming the buzz in bermuda circles and is even replacing bentgrass in the South on many courses that desire bentgrass quality putting surfaces and bermuda heat tolerance. The ball rolls true and fast on Champion, just like excellent bentgrass greens. Tee boxes are zoysia and bermuda. Fairways are bermudagrass.
Many large mature trees with several creeks winding through the course. Par is 71 and the course is very well maintained with a rich tradition and history. A new fleet of carts were acquired in 2007 and GPS units were installed on each cart in order to enhance the players' experience at Paxton Park.
This course hosts two large regional events each year featuring professionals and amateurs alike. The Pepsi Super Valu Irvin Cobb Golf Championship is held here each year in July and is considered the top local golf tournament in the four state regional area. The Texas Roadhouse Tri-States Senior Open is held here each year in September and is considered one of the premier senior golf events in our area.
Two PGA Tour Players (Russ Cochran and Kenny Perry), grew up playing this course and come back each year to help host the Super Valu Paxton Park Benefit Tournament which raises money for continued renovation efforts at this fine 65 year old facility and promoting junior golf as well.
